Marisella Veiga’s writing—fiction, nonfiction, and poetry–has appeared in numerous literary and commercial publications. Veiga received the Evelyn La Pierre Award in Journalism and was a nationally syndicated columnist with Hispanic Link News Service.
Her short stories are widely anthologized and two have won awards–a Pushcart Prize Special Mention in Fiction and the Canute M. Brodhurst Prize. Selected essays are on a spoken word CD, Square Watermelons: Ten Essays on Living with Two Cultures.
Veiga’s book about exile and resettlement as a Cuban refugee was published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press in 2016: We Carry Our Homes with Us: A Cuban American Memoir.
She also enjoys teaching the traditional dishes and food histories of Cuba. Cuban Rice Classics was published by Rubber Tree Press in 2013.
For a decade, Veiga was an English professor at Miami Dade Community College, Homestead Campus. She has taught as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, Florida State College in Jacksonville, and Flagler College.
She writes, translates, lectures and teaches workshops.
